The Polk County Library offers Ancestry.com to patrons who wish to search genealogy and family history records, or to build a family tree. The site also includes message boards, news, research tools, and how-to articles. This is a great electronic resource for family history for anyone interested.

CASA Seeks Volunteers
CASA-court appointed special advocates for children of abuse/neglect are looking for volunteers in Polk County. CASA volunteers are people just like you with a few hours each week to dedicate to helping children who have been removed from their homes and placed in foster care due to allegations of abuse or neglect. CASA Volunteers receive 30 hours of training designed to help them interview people important in the life of the child and report their findings to the Judge, allowing him to make the best decision he can in the best interest of the child. If you are interested in volunteering or wish to make a contribution to the CASA of the Ouachita Region, Inc., please call Cynthia Schoeppey at 479-243-9277. Arkansas Bikers Aiming Toward Education will hold monthly meetings on the first Sunday of every month at Lime Tree Restaurant in Mena. You don’t have to ride to attend or become a member. Board Meeting at 2:30 p.m. and General Meeting at 3:00 p.m. We are a non-profit organization.
A+ Labels
Don’t throw out those Tyson Project A+ labels! Those labels can help Polk County Developmental Center provide services for preschoolers with special needs in our area. It’s easy, just look for the Tyson Project A+ label on participating packages of Tyson products and cut it out. So simple but what a difference it can make! Women of Prayer
The Polk County Women of Prayer has changed its name to Women of Prayer. Come join us every month at the Lime Tree Restaurant as we pray using the Word of God for Mena, Polk County, Arkansas, the United States, Israel and the rest of the world. Ladies from all church denominations are welcome.

Hatfield Tops Club
The Hatfield Tops Club will be meeting at the Hatfield Library from now on, each Monday. The Tops Club had previously been meeting at Hatfield Town Hall. Weekly weigh-ins are from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m., with the meeting to follow.

Dallas Avenue Baptist Church, 300 Dallas Avenue, gives out food on the last Thursday of each month. Time 8:00-11:00 or until food runs out. If you need food its best to come early.

Mighty Oaks 4-H
The Acorn Mighty Oaks 4-H Club meets at the American Legion on first Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. Any family is welcome with children ages 5 to 19.
Ouachita Valley Al-Anon Family Group
The Ouachita Valley Al-Anon Family Group has moved its weekly meetings to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays at the First United Methodist Church, located at 501 9th Street in Mena. Al-Anon is a fellowship for friends and families of alcoholics. Anyone is invited to attend who has, or has ever had, someone in their life whose drinking has affected them. Just as A.A. helps the alcoholic to recover, Al-Anon helps the family to deal with the effects living with active alcoholism, and with the changes brought about by sobriety.
PCDC Recycles
What are you doing with all those plastic bottles that accumulate during the holiday festivities? Are all those sales catalogs and junk flyers taking up room in your trash? Recycle them at Polk County Developmental Center’s Recycle Center at 205 S. Morrow. PCDC recycles #1 & #2 plastic bottles, aluminum cans, newspaper, magazines, paper, cardboard, ink cartridges, cell phones, and rechargeable batteries. Recycling not only helps the community but provides job skills training for individuals with disabilities. If you have any questions about recycle or any of PCDC’s services call Ann at 394-2671.
Conservation District Walnuts
Rich Mountain Conservation District has received a shipment of English Walnut halves and pieces and will be selling them for $5 per 1 lb.bag. They also have several types of nuts left from their Fall Nut Sale left that can be purchased at their office at 508 7th Street. If you have any question, please call 479-394-1782 x 3. Grandparents Support
Grandparents Support (GPS) will be at Valley View Church of Christ in Greenwood located on Highway 71 South off of Highway 10 the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Guest speakers, fellowship, support, prayer and help needed. Healthy Connections Annual Meeting
Healthy Connections, Inc. will hold its Annual meeting of the Board of Directors Tuesday, March 26. This meeting is open to the public and begins at 5:15 p.m. The meeting will take place at HCI’s Mena location community room. During this meeting HCI will elect officers and consider nominations, from the Nomination Committee, of new board members. Local community members are encouraged and welcome to attend. HCI is currently accepting applications for prospective board members. Applications can be picked up at any HCI location or from any current board member.
Wickes Pentecostal Soup Kitchen
The Wickes Pentecostal Church of God will have their soup kitchen open every third Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., serving free meals. This month’s soup kitchen will be on Thursday, February 21. The Wickes Pentecostal Church of God is located at 7883 Highway 71 South in Wickes.
Tapley Fire Benefit Account
A benefit account has been established to assist the Tapley family following the loss of their home to a fire two weeks ago. Donations are being accepted at First National Branch banks, and anyone wishing to donate, no matter how much or how little, may do so by indicating to the teller that they wish to donate to the Tapley Benefit Account.
Low Cost Spay/Neutery
Low cost spay neuter is now available every month for low income families. The Humane Society of the Ouachitas has partnered with local veterinarian Dr. Randy Burgess to provide convenient services to those Polk County households earning less than $30,000 per year. Free Tax Service
Healthy Connections, funded by the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, is offering a free tax filing service called VITA for taxpayers earning $49,000 or less. Slots are limited and available by appointment only. Call Carla Moore at 479-437-3449 ext 135 to set up a time. The free tax service will be open Fridays and Saturdays through April 13 at the Union Bank’s Community Room in Mena.

Do you use Best Choice and Tyson products? Don’t throw out those labels! Polk County Developmental Center has a fundraiser that is real easy to do. Just save the UPC (proof of purchase) off any Best Choice product and the Tyson Project A+ Labels on participating Tyson products and bring them to the PCDC Resale Store, Jumpstart Preschool or mail to P.O. Box 926, Mena. So simple but what a difference it can make to children and adults with disabilities in our area!
Chocolate Time
Local area Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts have begun their annual chocolate bar sales. Candy bars are still just $1.00 each and include a Pizza Hut coupon on the wrapper. Flavors include: milk chocolate, crispy crunch, caramel, milk chocolate with almonds, and dark chocolate with almonds.
