Coronavirus Sports Impact

Governor Asa Hutchinson announced today during his COVID19 daily press conference that fall contact sports will most likely occur. Hutchinson as well as the Arkansas Athletic Association are asking high school football teams to have no contact team drills with their helmets during the week of August 3-7, 2020.

At this time, Hutchinson has also requested the AAA to submit a plan of action to the Arkansas Department of Health for review. By doing so, this will allow time for the ADH to review and set guidelines for mitigation. Hutchinson expressed his desire in seeing a regular sports season this fall and reminded Arkansans that a sports and extra curricular activities are an integral part of a student’s life.

With three weeks remaining prior to the August 24th first day of school, teams and coaches will have time to adjust and have plans in place allowing for safe practices on the field.
