“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he..”Proverbs 23:7
Words become actions. Actions become habits. Habits become character. Character becomes destiny.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.Philippians 4:8
The young man went many days without bathing. His clothes were often dirty and his hair was likely unkempt. It wasn’t uncommon for his brothers to discover him talking to himself or singing loudly when no one else was around. He spent his time alone but his alone time wasn’t spent begrudging loneliness or complaining about what some would call a hateful existence. He applied himself and became a skillful musician. He also became a fierce fighter because of necessity. David embraced what God was doing in his life.
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31
What can we say when things are against us? What should we say? What is the reality according to God’s word? David, a boy who was often forgotten about, was called from the pasture and sent to check on his brothers. It would have been a demeaning errand for most. It was embarrassing. David could have been filled with fear, self-loathing, and doubt. His inner-monologue should have been with hate and spite.
“…who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” 1 Samuel 17:26
When David arrived, they had set the battle in array. Everyone was in their place. Saul had convened his war council and all of his orders had been meticulously carried out. All of the soldiers stood at the ready but not a single blade was stained with blood.
The adversary has ridiculed you. He has made you want to quit. He has caused you to think that God is not available or it’s simply not God’s will. He has ridiculed you into silence and stolen your prayer life. And you could be just one thought, one word, one prayer away from victory.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
David called Goliath an uncircumcised, philistine. Circumcision was an act of consecration. He identified him as the enemy as well. He wasn’t about to allow the words of an unconsecrated, devil change his thinking or his verbiage about God. He ran into the valley and met the lies of the devil head on.
Don’t place your faith in a negative report. Don’t have a break down over the devils latest rumor. Don’t give in to fear. But allow God to transform your thinking and speak faith.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…Romans 12:2
If God can touch your thinking, He can change your life. Talk to God this week and change your mind about things. Speak good things. Allow yourself to hear good things, God things. It will be a catalyst for change your life and your family’s life.
