Two-state chase ends in arrest

Mena police took part in a car chase that resulted in two arrests on Thursday after the driver of a red Honda Accord refused to pull over for a traffic violation around 11:30 p.m.

Officers were lead on a pursuit through Polk County and LeFlore County, Oklahoma. The Polk County Sheriff's Department, the LeFlore County Sheriff's Office, the Choctaw Nation Tribal Police Department and the Oklahoma State Police assisted with the pursuit. The fleeing vehicle was eventually stopped on Haw Creek Road by a police road block. The vehicle's occupants were taken into custody by Oklahoma authorities.

The driver of the vehicle, Tommy Emmit Black, 42, of Mena, was charged with Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Driving Left of Center, Reckless Driving, Improper Passing, No Driver's License, No Vehicle License and No Liability Insurance.

A passenger, Herbert Ben Slater, 30, of Mena, was charged with Obstructing a Governmental Operation and Destruction of Evidence.

Both men face further charges out of Oklahoma.
