Mena Regional Health System was recently awarded the Diamond Award at the Arkansas Hospital Association’s 84th Annual Awards Banquet on October 9th in Little Rock, Arkansas. The Diamond Award was presented to Sonya Maye, MRHS Marketing and Public Relations Director for the category of Advertising in the Radio Category for “MRHS Medical Minute.”

The advertisement/public service announcement had to have been developed or commissioned to promote a hospital service or program. It may have been a single ad or a series of ads submitted as one entry. Though Maye created the “MRHS Medical Minute” radio ad, the inscription on the award goes to MRHS.

“I submitted the two entries for the Diamond Award,” Maye said. “The goals and objectives of the Radio Advertising Initiative were developed to inform the public about inpatient, outpatient and specialty services, community outreach events, support groups and health and wellness issues. As a rural hospital, we pride ourselves in the quality of service and excellence in patient-centered care. Utilizing the radio as a voice to our community has been a vital asset to our success.”   

The competition, co-sponsored by the Arkansas Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations, is designed to recognize excellence in hospital public relations and marketing. For more than 19 years, the Diamond Awards program has recognized excellence and encouraged improvement in the quality, effectiveness and impact of healthcare marketing and public relations in the state of Arkansas.

The 2014 competition drew 134 entries. Judging for each entry was based on goals and objectives, audience to whom directed, reasons for choosing the format, frequency and quality, portions that were created internally/externally, results/evaluation and total budget. The winning entries had to contain clear objectives that support the hospital’s goals; details and examples of entry’s cost-effectiveness; a demonstration of the use of marketing principles; the measurable value to the hospital in a creative and effective manner; and a high standard of quality.

Maye also accepted the Certificate of Excellence in the Internet Website category for MRHS. The category is for a website design, developed or commissioned to promote a hospital’s programs and services. Entries could be for new, redesigned or significantly enhanced websites. Judges looked for speed to access, design and functionality of the site.

Maye said, “The Award of Excellence was given for the newly redesigned website, which was developed in an effort to provide Mena Regional Health System with a tool to publicize and educate as we professionally promote the services available in our facility. Having the ability to communicate with our patients, provide relevant material and promote the outstanding services provided by MRHS, have significantly improved awareness and profitability.”

MRHS has been the recipient of several awards for quality service, including past Excellence awards and Merit awards in recent years at the same banquet. In 2013, MRHS received the honor for Most Improved in Patient Care and also received the 2013 Certificate of Excellence for Advertising in the Total Campaign category.
