Light pole falls on Mena player

Mena was winning 1-0 over Dardanelle in the Clarksville Soccer Tournament on Saturday, March 9, when a light pole fell on Bearcat soccer player Andrew Davis and a referee.

David Hopkins, Superintendent of Clarksville Schools, says that strong winds caused the pole to fall onto the playing field during the game.

Both the referee and the Mena athlete were taken via ambulance from the scene.

Mena Soccer Coach, Greg Tibbitt, noted on the incident, “It was a crazy event. I have been doing this for 16 years and I have never seen a pole fall.”

Tibbitt added, “Andrew has some pretty bad scratches, cuts, and a shoulder bruise, but the referee suffered the worst of it.”

Mena Soccer will be back in action in Arkadelphia on Friday, March 15.
