Manasco charged with First Degree Battery and Negligent Homicide

Chance Austen Manasco, 21, of Mena was charged with First Degree Battery and Negligent Homicide on Tuesday. The charges come from a fatal one-vehicle accident which happened in February of 2019 in Howard County.

According to authorities, Manasco was driving a Chevorlet Traverse on Highway 84 close to Umpire, when control was lost of the vehicle in a curve. The Traverse flipped multiple times before coming to a stop. Manasco and three other minors were injured in the accident, while Rachel Norman, 19, of Wickes died on the scene from her injuries.

Arkansas State Troopers who were working the wreck stated that they detected the smell of alcohol coming from Manasco, and testing from the State Crime Lab confirmed that Manasco's blood acohol level was above the legal limit. The State Police constructed a replay of the accident and determined that Manasco's vehicle had been traveling at speeds close to 90 miles per hour prior to the accident.

According to the Howard County Sheriff’s Office website, Manasco was booked Thursday, September 12, at 10:10am.
