JONESBORO — Craighead County Justices of the Peace are expected to consider Monday amending a fire district ordinance that they passed in January.

Judge Marvin Day said the original ordinance required fire protection districts throughout the county to submit annual audits.

“After the fire districts looked closer, they realized two things – that the original audit submission deadline of March 15 did not allow them enough time for the audits to be conducted and ... the original wording did not allow them to pay for utilities and upkeep of the fire stations using fire dues,” he said.

The amended ordinance will allow fire districts until June to have audits turned in, Day said. It will also allow districts to use fire dues to pay for station upkeep.

Quorum Court members are also expected to hear the first reading of the amended ordinance that will implement those changes.

JPs also are expected to consider:

An amendment to the 2021 Craighead County Sheriff’s Office budget to replace a patrol vehicle.

An appropriations ordinance regarding 2020 fund transfers.

A resolution to appoint Gary Barr to the Egypt Fire Board.

The quorum court meeting will be conducted virtually at 5 p.m., with the regular meeting starting at 5:30 p.m. Those who want to access the meeting via Zoom can do so at https://bit.ly/2NpJEn9.
