David Wayne Bennett, age 59, a resident of Newhope, Arkansas passed away Friday, February 17, 2023 at CHI St. Vincent in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
He was born December 5, 1963 in Stigler, Oklahoma. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dierks. He started his student teaching in Malvern, Arkansas. He then started his 35 year coaching career in 1987, two years in Marlin, Texas, three years as defensive coordinator in Moody, Texas, five years as defensive coordinator at Murfreesboro, Arkansas and three years as athletic director and head coach in Prescott, Arkansas and sixteen years at Dierks, Arkansas, one year at Horatio, Arkansas, and five more years in Mineral Springs, ending his career in spring of 2022. He enjoyed playing with his grandkids, hunting, fishing and golf.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Joyce Kesterson Bennett; one brother, Eddie Bennett; two sisters, Sherry Cook and Terry O’Neal; one grandchild, Eliza Bennett.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kim Bennett; one son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Elizabeth Bennett of Nashville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Brittany and Matt Webb of Lockesburg; Kourtney Bennett of Conway, Arkansas, Whitney and Dalton Ray of Kirby, Arkansas; one brother, Elvis Bennett and wife Brenda; one sister, Patti Morris; six grandchildren, Gracelynn, Jon-Henry, Annalee, Benjamin, Raleigh and Judah and a number of nieces, nephews, a host of friends, students, and players.
Funeral services for Coach Bennett will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 20, 2023 at Dierks Gymnasium with Jaron Tipton officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery in Newhope, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Dierks.
