Bucks Softball has earned a commitment from a hometown Mena athlete. Autumn Powell of Mena High School announced her decision last Tuesday saying, "Excited to announce that I have decided to further my softball career at the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain! Go Bucks!"
Powell began playing softball when she was five years old, on a league team in Mena. Since then, she has played on a travel team each year, won five state titles, and traveled to the World Series where her team was crowned Runner-Up.
"It's always been a dream of mine to play college ball," Powell said on the opportunity. "Getting a chance to play at the next level has made all the extra practices and early mornings spent at the gym working out worth it."
Why UARM? Powell says that Bucks Softball's Coach Nealy is a big factor. "What made me want to commit to UARM was Coach Nealy's coaching philosophies and the goals he has for the program." The incoming high school senior added, "I have seen Coach Nealy coach for several years and he is an amazing coach."
"I could not be more excited to get to play for Coach Nealy, as well as be on UARM's first softball team, all while representing my home town! I can't wait to see the growth of UARM's sports programs and to be a part of the UA tradition. Go Bucks!"
