Bucks run in Chile Pepper Classic; Prepare for Region II Championship

The Rich Mountain Cross Country teams were in competition last Saturday morning in the Chile Pepper Classic in Fayetteville. The Bucks competed against 347 other runners in the second heat of the 5K race which included athletes from NJCAA, NCAA DII, and NAIA schools.

Miriam Mendez finished first the Bucks in 277th place with a time of 23:25.4. Three seconds behind Miriam was her twin sister Marlenne Mendez who finished with a time of 23:28.2. Shannan Gardner finished the race with a time of 23:35.4, and Faith Hill of Acorn finished 297th with a time of 24:17.3.

In the men's race, the Bucks were among 346 runners from NJCAA, NCAA DII, and NAIA schools. The Rich Mountain men finished 29th overall. As usual, Jordan Foster finished first for the Bucks in 77th with a time of 27:18.3. 

Finishing next for the Bucks was Michael Tenorio with a time of 29:07.8 in 188th place. Robert McIntyre finished 194th with a time of 29:17.6, Cross Hughes 220th (29:49.0), and Clint Bucks 239th (30:20.2).

Osman Flores (30:50.4), Asael Sanchez (31:26.7), and JP Rojas (33:26.1) also competed for Rich Mountian.

The Bucks will be back in action at the Mena Lion's Club on Saturday, October 12, for the NJCAA Division I Region II Championship.
