Bearcats end fun-filled season

After defeating Hope 9-8 in the first round of the 4A South District Soccer Tournament, the Bearcats fell short to De Queen 2-0 in the District semi-finals, to earn a #4 seed going into the 4A State Soccer Tournament at Batesville High School.

Advancing the the 4A State Soccer Tournament, the Bearcats matched up against the #1 seed from the East Division, Hamburg (10-2-2, 8-0), and knocked off the Lions 2-1. Moving on, on Friday, May 10, the Bearcats took on #2 seed Dardanelle (15-8, 7-1) in the second round and defeated the Sand Lizards with a goal with 2 seconds remaining in the second overtime of the contest. Mena won the game 2-1, to continue on to the 4A State semi-finals. With a trip to the 4A State Soccer Finals on the line, Mena Soccer welcomed competition from the Valley View Blazers (18-9-1, 9-0). However, the Blazers shutout the Bearcats and scored two goals of their own in each half, to win the game 4-0.

The Bearcats finished their successful season with an overall record of 11-6-1, while winning six of their nine conference games. Mena Soccer won games against Subiaco Academy, Heavener, Bauxite, Nashville, Hope, Malvern, Cossatot, Arkadelphia, Hamburg, and Dardanelle.
