Mena Volleyball has been busy here lately. Over the weekend, the Mena junior high and senior high teams competed in tournaments. The Jr. Ladycats competed in Jessieville and the Mena senior high squad took part in the first annual Rams MTXE Tournament at Lakeside High School.
The Mena Jr. Ladycats competed with their JV and Varsity teams. Both teams played exceptionally well in pool play, as the JV team advanced to the Silver Bracket, and varsity Ladycats to the Gold Bracket.
In tournament play, the Mena Jr. varsity team played their way into the Gold Bracket Finals where the Ladycats took down Southside Batesville 2-0, to win the tournament. In the Silver Bracket, the Mena JV team also advanced to the Finals match and won 2-0 over Christian Ministries Academy.
At Lakeside, the senior Ladycats won their first pool play game against Lake Hamilton 2-0 (25-18, 25-18), before sweeping Pottsville 2-0 (25-8, 25-19) as well. In their final pool play match, the Ladycats split with Marion 1-1 (14-25, 25-23).
Going into tournament play, the Ladycats held the #2 seed from their pool and matched up with #1 seed Lakeside in the first round of the Gold Bracket. The Ladycats fell to the talented Lady Rams 0-2 (14-25, 15-25).
On Monday, September 30, Mena Volleyball traveled to Shiloh Christian to take on the Lady Saints. In junior high action, the Jr. Ladycats pulled off a 2-0 (25-11, 30-28) victory, even after a questionable call by the home-town officials on what would have been the winning point for Mena in the second set.
The Mena senior high squad was also victorious 3-1 (26-24, 25-14, 16-25, 25-16) in a touch battle with the Lady Saints of Shiloh.
Mena Volleyball was back in action against Camden Fairview on Tuesday as Mena JV won 2-1, before the Varsity squad swept the Lady Cardinals 3-0 (25-11, 25-6, 25-8).
The Ladycats will be back on the court at the Union Bank Center on Thursday, October 3, as Mena Volleyball hosts Little Rock McClellan.
