SUBMITTED – Recognizing the transformational growth that the new Bucks athletics programs are bringing to the college and the local community, Mena’s hometown bank, the Union Bank of Mena, was eager to contribute to the vision. Senior bank officers Kevin Williams, Phillip Hensley and Michael Myers recently presented the UA Rich Mountain Foundation with a substantial contribution that will allow for the renovation and construction of collegiate baseball and softball fields at McMillan Park for the Bucks to begin play in the Fall of 2020.
Others present to accept the gift Bucks Baseball Coach Lance Spigner, Foundation Director Dr. Diann Gatheright, Vice Chancellor of Finance & Administration / Athletic Director Morris Boydstun, Chancellor Dr. Phillip Wilson, and Bucks Softball Coach Tracy Nealy.
UA Rich Mountain has negotiated an agreement with the City of Mena that will allow the college exclusive rights to the park, excluding the swimming pool. The fields at the park had not been used for competitive ball since the construction of the new fields at Tapley Park. This partnership between the college and the City will allow for a long-standing City asset to now be utilized.
Kevin Williams, Union Bank President, indicated the bank’s support of the long-term relationship with the college and his support of the vision of Dr. Wilson and his administration. Coaches Spigner and Nealy noted how impressed the families of their recruits have been with the partnership between the community and the college in providing quality higher education opportunities, quality housing, collegiate athletic facilities and the desire to establish programs in which the student-athletes will be proud to play.”
The UA Rich Mountain is a 501c3 Foundation and all gifts received are recognized by the IRS as a tax-deductible contribution. If you are interested in supporting the mission of the Foundation through scholarships, please contact Dr. Diann Gathright at firstname.lastname@example.org or 479.394.7622 ext. 1212.
