Defender’s takes on Fight Night in the Fort

A couple of competitors from Defender’s Boxing Club in Mena competed at the Fight Night in the Fort boxing show on Saturday.

First up representing Mena was Jesse Self. Taking a tough loss, Rich Hexamer of Defender’s Boxing Club noted, “Jesse dropped a tough bout, but did an awesome job never the less.” With Friday’s fight, Self moves his record to 1-2 overall. The 15-year old  athlete is the son of Melissa and David Self of Wickes.

Zack Willis also competed and represented his town. “Zack brought home some well deserved hardware after a very nice bout against a very tough opponent,” said Hexamer. With the victory, Willis improves his record to 2-2. Willis  is the grandson of Tammy and Garland Cox.

“Simple words cannot say how proud I am of this young team,” stated Hexamer.

Next up, Defender’s Boxing Club will be preparing for the State Silver Gloves Tournament in North Little Rock on December 6 and 7. Mena will be represented with 7 competing athletes.
